I really didn’t need to buy this thing... yet here I am with project “Fix a rusted ‘n busted 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee”. (or just abuse it n dump it)
Overall, the body itself is actually in pretty good condition for a vehicle that’s been in MN for its entire life. The front suspension, tires and possibly transfercase are another (horrible) story. Luckily, some investigation on eBay has led to discovering a complete front end rebuild kit for ~$220ish.
Also, it did make the hour journey back home. The engine runs fairly well and fires on all 6 glorious AMC designed cylinders. The transmission shifts great too. However, the transfer case is leaking fluid. Ugh.

Looks too clean for a Jeep.

Exactly. I have no idea how the fenders managed to escape rust. Hell, the paint is still shiny.
The driver door under the mirror, tailgate and hood are just now starting to corrode at the edges.
I will probably have to weld in some re-enforcement and enclose just 2 areas of the frame right after the lower control arms. Rust took its toll a bit.

The Inline 6 is the way to go, those V8 models had lots of problems.

Must’ve been the most popular color on these things.

Looks like a great find. I would think this one would be worth saving.

I hope so too. I’m worried about getting the suspension and transfer case sorted out.

If you can spin a wrench and pick up heavy things, you can fix a leaky transfer case. They’re shockingly simple machines. Even the “fancy” part-time/full-time cases many Jeeps have are super easy to work on. Or you can just add fluid once in a while because ATF is cheap and I’m lazy!
Also, be nice to that transmission. For some reason the ZJ and WJ transmissions seem to go from “awesome” to “paperweight” in no time. It’s unfortunate, since the 4.0 is obviously immortal!
I say get some moderately aggressive tires and a couple not-so-bright friends and go find some trails! Minnesota is certainly full of muddy places to get a Jeep stuck! Lots of trees to run into, too. Jeeps love trees.
